It is time...


You say “It is time you _” When you are someone to do something that you think they should have already done a long time ago :

  • You know, it is time you got off your ass and looked for a job.

  • It’s time you learned a lesson about bowing your sensai.

Notice that you use the past tense of the verb after “It’s time you…” In the example at top, the speaker says “got off” instead of “get off”

You can also say “It’s high time you…”

“Be seriously, it’s time you got rid of damn thing.”

  • You can say, “It is time (for somebody) to do something.

  • Here we we use the past (went), but the meaning is present, not past.

  1. It’s time (somebody) to do something.

  2. It’s time to go home.

  3. It’s late. It is time we went home.

  4. He is still in bed. It is time he got up.

  5. It is time the children were in bed. It is long past their bed time.

  • ~그렇게 했어야 했다. 아쉬움. Regret.

  • ~안한거에 대해서 후회한다. 안타까움 마음.

For instance,

  • You haven’t taken a vacation for a very long time. You need one now.

  • It is time I took a vacation for a very long time. I need one now.

  • You are sitting on a train waiting for it to leave the station. It is already five minutes late.

  • It is time you left the station. It’s already five minutes late.

  • You enjoy having parties. You haven’t had one for a long time.

  • It is time you had a party. You haven’t had one for a long time.

  • The company you work for is badly managed. You think there should be some changes.

  • It is time the company made some changes.
